India's Olympics performance & way forward

As Paris Olympics is over, I want a few changes which can better our chances in the upcoming Olympics.

1. Transition from Junior to Senior - Only a small amount of our Junior World medalists can develop into Senior medal contender

Exm - Jeremy Lalrinnunga is Youth World Record Holder, so are Rizki Juniansyah🇮🇩 & Karlos Nasar🇧🇬. Latter won Golds in Paris OG, whereas Jeremy is yet to break PB for the past 4.5 years.

Komalika Bari could be another example as she became 2 time age-group Archery World Champion but whom she has beaten (Sonoda Waka🇯🇵 / Elia Cañales🇪🇸) has more achievements than her recently.

2. Underperformance at crucial moments - Indian athletes played a total of 5 Bronze medal matches in Paris OG but won 2 (Men's Hockey & Aman in Men's 57kg FS) but lost 3 (Skeet Mixed, Archery Mixed & Badminton MS) - this aspect should be improved in future

Handling the pressure in key situations is one aspect I want Indian athletes to improve.

3. Focus on quality over quantity -

"Jack of all trades, master of none"

At the Hangzhou Asian Games Uzbekistan🇺🇿 won 22 Golds (compared to 28 Golds by India) but at Paris OG, Uzbekistan won 8 Golds. Diyora Keldiyorova, Ulugbek Rashitov, Hasanboy Dusmatov, Abdumalik Khalakov, Bakhodir Jalolov medalled in both of them and most of them pre-tournament favorites. In Olympics, you can expect easy draws & draw doesn't matter for those who are capable.

Even at sport like Shooting where India supposed to have good bench strength, we never medalled more than 3 in any World Championships or Olympics.

4. Coaching issues - We have seen many high profile coaches are resigning or they have not properly utilised (even though they have delivered many great results before).

Bernard Dunne🇮🇪 has delivered 1🥇1🥉for Ireland in Paris has resigned just after Busto Arsizio Olympic Qualifier.

Archery coach Baek Woongki has not been utilised properly since his appointment in March 2023. He has not been included in the Paris Olympics squad.

Indian Weightlifting HPD Aveenash Pandoo resigned after 12 months of his tenure in 2022.

This is also very common in sports like Badminton.

5. Problem in Federations - We have seen multiple Indian feds have been banned by World Governing body due to external interference or improper governance.

IOA (2014-15), Boxing (2015-16), Archery (2019), Football (2023), Wrestling (2023-24) are some of the Federations got banned in past 10 years. Even today there is faction led to ban in Volleyball Federation of India. Taekwondo has 2 feds (India Taekwondo is recognised by World Taekwondo, Taekwondo Federation of India is recognised by SAI/IOA)

6. Peaking at the right time - What I have seen in the USA & China is that they always punched above their weight when it matters.

Reetika Hooda defeated Kennedy Blades to win U23 World Title but same Kennedy Blades reached Olympics Final (no it's not about luck always)
