Q: Is there a production plant of Apple in India?


A: Apple, headquartered in Cupertino, California, basically performs the R&D. They have Global Capability Centre or development center across the Globe. In India, they have development center in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Gurgaon. But Apple products such as Macbook, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods are manufactured by their contract manufacturers such as Foxconn, Wistron, Pegatron etc.

Foxconn has assembly units in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh and Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Wistron has manufacturing unit in Narasapura, around 65 km from Bengaluru.

Pegatron, another Apple assembler from Taiwan has already registered their office in Chennai. With an investment of $150 million it will setup a manufacturing unit which will be operational by 2022.

Taiwan based "Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co. Ltd", popularly known as Foxlink that mass produced cables and wires for Apple is opening their manufacturing unit in India with an initial investment of ₹16 crore

India’s iPhone production touched 1.4 million units in FY20. Their production touched 1.2 million units in H1FY21. Around 42% of iPhones assembled in India are sold locally, rest are exported.
